sidmouth hospiscare caring for people with life threatening illnesses in the sid valley home www.sidmouthhospiscare.org.uk sidmouth hospiscare registered charity number 1153338 sidmouth hospiscare is a locally based charity totally relying on donations to support the care of people with life-limiting illnesses in the sid valley. a team of clinical nurse specialists support patients who are registered with a sidmouth gp within their own homes. this website is under development. thank you for your patience. new premises for sidmouth hospiscare we are pleased to announce that we have copmpleted the purchase the old sidford surgery to enable us to meet the increasing demands for our services. for almost 35 years shc has been offering care and support to patients in the sid valley with life-limiting illnesses, and to their carers and families. palliative care is provided by a team of 5 specialist nurses, and volunteer support from around 50 volunteers. funding is also provided to enable the provision of day care in the honiton day centre, a dedicated bed in victoria cottage hospital and in-patient care at exeter hospice. the statistical findings from local population demographics predict that the demand for these services is expected to increase significantly over the coming years. soon after joining shc in december 2016, ceo gill ryall began working with a number of different groups to consider how shc needs to develop to meet this increasing demand. solutions being considered are; - enhanced nursing and volunteer services to provide additional support in the latter stages of life to enable patients to remain in their own homes; - a day centre in sidmouth to enhance the physical and mental well-being of patients and provide respite and support for carers (including a nurse clinic, complementary therapy, counselling and education sessions; - education and support of local care homes to better enable them to support patients in the latter stages of life; - extending the volunteer support to other groups of patients (e.g. those with advanced dementia) in particular to enable respite and support for the carers. gill states' "there are significant challenges ahead but this building provides us with the potential to develop our services to meet the increasing need. we are keen to work with other related organisations within the community to use the new building to enhance the support to our patients and carers and to develop a community wide approach to tackle these challenges." home about us history the team events and thank you donations contact us privacy policy vacancies volunteering
